What is the ideal brief for a logo?
Friday, 4 September 2009
Yesterday someone asked me if it helps when a client gives me their ideas as part of the brief for wanting a new logo designed.
My answer was that the more a client can give me the better. They are the expert in their business, not me, and everything helps. Their ideas may not be the solution, but it does give me insight and helps with the graphic design creative juices.
Other contributions a client can make to help with the brief is to list the competition, and also find examples of other companies logos they like. These may not be a style guide for what my client needs, but it does open up discussion, and as a graphic designer I believe that the creative process is a team effort with my clients.
On the other hand though, and to play the devil's advocate, a blank canvas can be quite refreshing and challenging!
